Michail Antonio believes Newcastle United have already proven they will not lose their momentum over to the World Cup break. The West Ham striker believes the 'consistency' Eddie Howe's side have shown over the calendar year suggests the Magpies could still be 'flying' in the new year.
Newcastle currently sit third in the table after a remarkable start to the season, and are guaranteed to be in the Premier League's top four at Christmas. Howe's side are six points clear of Chelsea and host the Blues in their final top-flight fixture before the winter break.
With six wins in their last seven matches, the World Cup arguably could not come at a worse time for the Premier League's form side. Callum Wilson admits the six-week break is 'disappointing' as the six-week break prior to the Boxing Day clash at Leicester City could disrupt the team's momentum.

However, fellow Premier League striker Antonio is confident the Magpies are capable of sustaining their form over an extended break. Newcastle have built upon their fine finish to the end of last season, and the 32-year-old has backed Howe's side to continue their surprise push for a Champions League spot.
He told BBC's Footballer's Football Podcast: "To be honest, I actually don't think this break is going to effect you lot because you've had this form since the end of last season. You've been doing this consistently since the end of last season.
"You've started this season and just carried it on. I actually don't think this break is going to affect you because you breaking up for the summer didn't affect you. So you never know, you lot could come back and still be flying."
