In July, Amazon controversially announced that they were raising their prices by 12.5% from mid-September for existing and new subscribers.

In an email sent to subscribers overnight, Amazon said: ‘As of 15 September 2022, the price of the monthly Prime membership will increase from £7.99 to £8.99, and the price of the annual Prime membership will increase from £79 to £95.’

Future plans

The rights for just two rounds of Premier League fixtures are said to cost Amazon about £30m per season, although they have big plans to compete with Sky and BT in the near future.

Sky Sports already have the rights to broadcast the bulk of Premier League games that are selected for live coverage, along with exclusive rights for the Carabao Cup and the EFL, while BT Sport also have the rights to broadcast top flight fixtures weekly, as well as every Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League fixture.

However, it was also announced in July that Amazon had secured rights to 20 Champions League games a season from 2024/25.
