The Premier League will not be starting a 'Drive to Survive' style Netflix show, reports suggest. The popular Formula One documentary over the course of a season helped to transform the popularity of the sport five years ago but no such coverage of England's top flight will take place.
The Telegraph write that the prospect of such a series was discussed at a meeting between all 20 clubs on Thursday. Other issues were also spoken about including major talking points regarding the wider landscape of the game such as governing rules over ownership of clubs.
Within that it has emerged that there will be no Netflix series across the league, with the American film and TV streaming giant pitching the idea in September. The idea is said to have had opposition from the UK's largest Premier League broadcaster Sky Sports, who are owned by US media conglomerate Comcast.

The clubs have more coverage now via in-house media teams and behind-the-scenes content than ever before and Netflix have never bid for the rights to broadcast matches on their platform like fellow streaming service Amazon.
The company also haven't made any offers overseas either for broadcasting rights. Both Tottenham and Arsenal have had fly-on-the-wall documentaries following specific seasons, made by Amazon, but the latest idea was for a league-wide series to be made.
Whilst those shows, and one covering Manchester City, have proved to be immensely popular and would pave the way for a Drive to Survive style concept in English football, Sky maintain that it is their coverage of F1 that has seen a new generation of fans flock to the sport.
