De Zerbi has two clear targets after Tottenham fixtures confirmed
11:21 , Alex Young
Tottenham look set to navigate a difficult winter period next season after the 2026/27 Premier League fixtures were released on Friday morning.
Spurs face Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City in the space of a month between December and January, while in that time they will also host Bournemouth and Brighton, who both qualified for Europe last season.
The north London club are looking to build towards a new era under Roberto De Zerbi after successive 17th-place finishes, and kickstart their campaign away to Brentford at 5:30pm on August 22.
Following a testing opening day fixture, Spurs then host Newcastle before a trip to Nottingham Forest, where they were comprehensively beaten 3-0 last season.
De Zerbi’s side then host Aston Villa, before travelling to play Manchester United and Chelsea, in between welcoming newly promoted Coventry City to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
There appears little opportunity for Spurs to build momentum, but will count November and January among their more favourable months on paper.
Who will be top after first five Premier League games?
11:05 , Alex Young
There is a new look to the Premier League fixture list for next season.
Rather than the three international breaks in September, October and November as has become the norm, there will now only be two in the first half of the season.
That is because the first of them has been extended to three weeks, stretching from September 19 to October 10.
Clubs will therefore have a long time to reflect on their starts to the season, adding even greater significance to the first five rounds of fixtures.
Premier League champions Arsenal have been handed a difficult start and will be delighted if they can find a way to be among the early pacesetters.
Matt Verri has looked at how the Premier League season could look after five games, when the first international break hits. Arsenal could face shock challenger.
Alonso dealt early Chelsea suspension blow
10:55 , Alex Young
Xabi Alonso will face an early test of his credentials when Chelsea travel to the reigning Premier League champions Arsenal in their third game of the 2026/27 season.
Alonso will be looking for a fast start to his Chelsea tenure, having signed a four-year contract to take over from Liam Rosenior in May. The Spaniard will hope home is where the heart is as the Blues do not venture outside of London in any of their first six league fixtures.
Without European football next season, Chelsea will have full focus on the Premier League.
The Blues kickstart their season on Monday night with a trip down the King’s Road to face Fulham at Craven Cottage on 24 August.
Alonso will be without Wesley Fofana for his opening game following the defender’s red card - for two bookings - against Sunderland on the final day of the season. He will serve a one-game ban.
Brentford face horror run-in
10:50 , Alex Young
Brentford kick off the new Premier League season at home to Tottenham.
Having lost their manager and captain, and two key attacking talents, the Bees were tipped by some for relegation last term.
Instead, under the guidance of rookie head coach Keith Andrews, they finished ninth and took the scalps of the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Aston Villa along the way.
Andrews did have a tricky start last year, winning only one of his first five matches in charge, and this season Brentford begin against a Spurs team that took Thomas Frank from them, only to then sack him just under eight months later.
Brentford’s first away trip is to Leeds, with Sunderland the second visitors to the Gtech Community Stadium before the Bees then go on the road to Bournemouth.
Their first London derby will see them entertain Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea on September 19.

Nightmare start for Fulham
10:40 , Alex Young
Fulham will begin the Premier League season with a new face in the dugout following the departure of manager Marco Silva.
Silva last week confirmed this Craven Cottage exit after five years in west London, opting against extending his expiring contract to return to his homeland of Portugal to replace Jose Mourinho at Benfica.
Fulham are yet to appoint Silva’s successor - with Alvaro Arbeloa heavily linked after leaving Real Madrid - but the new man will face a tough start at home to Chelsea in a west London derby.
It is part of a rather difficult opening run for the club to kick off the new campaign, with games against Liverpool and Manchester United before the September international break.

Sage learns Crystal Palace start as Premier League fixtures confirmed
10:30 , Alex Young
Crystal Palace head into the new season after a stunning 12 months of success, but now facing the unknown.
The Eagles followed up their 2025 FA Cup triumph with last season’s Community Shield and Conference League, as manager Oliver Glasner bowed out with European glory.
In comes Pierre Sage, last season’s Ligue 1 Manager of the Year for steering Lens to a second-place finish. He also brings with him a trophy track record, having won the Coupe de France, beating Nice 3-1 in the final.
And Sage has been handed two tricky opening games, before a kinder September. Palace’s first test is a trip to Everton, followed by the first home game of the season, against Manchester City.

Five minutes to go!
09:50 , Alex Young
It is also worth noting that with Arsenal likely to be at home in their first game, that would see Tottenham play away from home in their first fixture.
Nothing confirmed yet, but that’s how things work with the north London rivals due to policing and other matters.
09:42 , Alex Young
Another’s latest new era, their second seven months, will begin with Xabi Alonso in the dugout.
He will be keen for an easy home fixture to kick things off. Will the Premier League fixture gods oblige?
09:31 , Alex Young
The last time Arsenal began a Premier League season as champions, it was away at Everton in August 2004. Will they get a home game this time?
We will know in half an hour.

An hours until the fixture release!
Will the season start on Friday night? If so, where and which teams?
Who gets the first Saturday lunchtime slot, and the Saturday evening?
Which two teams sign off the opening weekend on Sunday afternoon?
Tricky starts
08:40 , Alex Young
Last season Arsenal had quite a tough start, narrowly beating Manchester United on the opening weekend and then lost to Liverpool in their third game.
A Liverpool team who won their opening five games.
But that was Arsenal’s only loss in their first 14 games, winning 10. So those tricky starts may not mean much on paper.
Who will Arsenal get this time?
New Spurs kit launched
08:25 , Alex Young
Tottenham have used today to unveil their new kit for next season.
Archie Gray and James Maddison are front and centre, but captain Cristian Romero is nowhere to be seen.
You can take more of a look here.
What are the season dates?
08:10 , Alex Young
This has changed in recent seasons.
With tweaks to the FA Cup schedule and the introduction - and removal - of a so-called ‘winter break’, the Premier League schedule has often looked different season on season.
For this campaign, there will be 33 weekends of action and five midweek rounds of fixtures.
Fixtures can be postponed for a variety of reasons, so everything is subject to change.
Will the TV fixtures be announced?
07:55 , Alex Young
Sky Sports and TNT Sport will announce their picks for the first weekend of the new season when the fixtures are released.
When does the Premier League start?
07:45 , Alex Young
The first match is currently pencilled in for Saturday, August 22, a week later than usual due to the 2026 World Cup.
However, Friday night curtain-raisers are becoming more common and the opening game is expected to take place the day before, on August 21.
Over the Christmas period, no clubs will play more than once within a period of 60 hours, and there will be no Christmas Eve fixture.
The final round of games is scheduled for Sunday, May 30, 2027.
When are the Premier League fixtures released?
07:35 , Alex Young
The official reveal for the 380 matches is set for 10am BST.
It is a later time than usual, with 9am the traditional publication time.
We will have everything ready for you, bang on 10am.
