Premier League duo and Spanish clubs weighing up moves to gazump Swansea City for Stoke City star Joe Allen

Swansea City face competition from two Premier League clubs for Joe Allen's signature this summer.

Sources have indicated that newly-promoted duo Fulham and Bournemouth have joined the long list of teams casting an eye over the midfielder, with as many as four clubs in Spain also believed to have taken an interest.

Swansea boss Russell Martin has made little secret of his desire to sign the Wales international, but talks aren't believed to have progressed beyond initial conversations.

Allen, now a free agent, is currently on holiday and it's understood that despite enthusiasm from the Swans, Stoke are currently the only side to have held any formal discussions over a deal.

The former Liverpool man is believed to be keen to hear what the Potters have to offer, although any new contract from Stoke is likely to be on revised terms given the financial difficulties facing them and many others in the Championship.

All of this comes against the backdrop of a massive summer for the 32-year-old, who will have a key role for Wales as they take on either Scotland or Ukraine for a place in the World Cup in Qatar towards the end of the year. Allen is set to link up with Rob Page and the rest of the squad later this month and his international duties could well complicate matters.

All options are being kept open at present, although Allen would unquestionably be open to a return to his boyhood club, providing it was on the right terms.

However, news of the interest from Fulham and Bournemouth could yet persuade him to consider another go at the Premier League.
