The Premier League has confirmed that players and staff of all 20 clubs will no longer be tested twice a week for Covid-19 from Monday, unless displaying symptoms of the virus.
Since Project Restart was launched in June 2020, following the UK's first nationwide lockdown at the start of the pandemic, players and staff have been forced to have two weekly Covid-19 tests to ensure that they are not carrying the virus without knowing so. However, in line with England's move to live with the virus as the long-term strategy, the league has confirmed that mandatory testing will be brought to an end.
However, players and staff who are displaying symptoms of the virus will continue to be tested. The Premier League has also confirmed that they will continue to follow the national guidance, in the event of the situation changing.

A statement read : "The Premier League has today updated its remaining COVID-19 measures. From 4 April, the League will remove twice-weekly COVID-19 testing of players and staff and move to symptomatic testing only.
"Other key updates include the removal of the requirement for clinical passports to access previously restricted areas at training grounds and on matchdays as the Premier League returns to business-as-usual operations.
"The wellbeing of players and staff remains a priority and the Premier League will continue to monitor the national COVID-19 situation and adapt League-wide protocols as required, in line with the latest guidance from public health authorities and medical experts."
Manchester United have been hit by one major covid outbreak this season, forcing them to have their clashes with Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion just prior to Christmas postponed. Manchester City, meanwhile, have managed to complete almost the whole season without the need of a Covid-19-related postponement being required, meaning, overall, both clubs have done reasonably well in that sense this season.
