The Premier League has condemned “horrific and brutal acts of violence” in Israel and Gaza as it announced plans for a a period of silence to take place ahead of the next round of fixtures.
Players, staff and officals will also wear black armbands when club football resumes after the current international break, while the Premier League will also be donating funds to the British Red Cross.
The EFL confirmed the same marks of respect for this weekend’s matches in League One and League Two.
A statement read: “The Premier League is shocked and saddened by the escalating crisis in Israel and Gaza, and strongly condemns the horrific and brutal acts of violence against innocent civilians.
“We hope for peace, and our heartfelt sympathies are with the victims, their families and the communities impacted.
“As a mark of respect for all those affected, Premier League players, managers and match officials will wear black armbands and observe a moment’s silence at the fixtures taking place from Saturday 21 to Monday 23 October.
“The League will also make a donation to the British Red Cross to support the aid efforts helping those in urgent need.”
An FA statement stated that Israeli and Palestinian flags will be banned from Wembley on Friday night, when England face Australia in a friendly. It also set to be decided that the Wembley arch will not be lit up in the colours of the Israeli flag, due to fears of a potential backlash from some communities.
