Premier League announces 'unique' Leeds United and Manchester United fixture rearrangement plan

Leeds United will face bitter rivals Manchester United twice in the same week if neither side is required to play a replay in the FA Cup fourth round.

The fixture between the two sides at Old Trafford was originally scheduled to be played in September 2022, but was postponed following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The Whites' trip to Man United will now provisionally be played on Wednesday, February 8, with kick-off at 8pm, which means the rearranged fixture has been scheduled just four days before Leeds welcome the Red Devils to Elland Road on Sunday, February 12.

However, should Man United or Leeds be forced to play an FA Cup replay, then the Premier League has announced that it will look at 'alternative dates for the fixture'.

Leeds travel to either Accrington Stanley or non-league Boreham Wood in the lunchtime kick-off on Saturday, January 28, while Man United host Reading in the late kick-off on the same day.

Both games will come at a crucial period for Leeds, as they face Nottingham Forest before, and Everton after their doubleheader against the Red Devils.

"The League also acknowledges the unique circumstances of the teams playing each other twice in the same week, with Leeds United v Manchester United scheduled for Sunday 12 February. This is to avoid potential fixture congestion later in the season," the Premier League revealed in a statement.

"Should either side require an FA Cup Fourth Round replay, the Premier League will look at alternative dates to place this fixture."
