Pregnant woman found dead in Glasgow flat named amid search at Mugdock Country Park

A pregnant woman who was found dead at a flat in Glasgow has been named locally as Marelle Sturrock.

Police were called to a property on Jura Street in Govan amid concern for a person at 8.40am on Tuesday, April 25. The body of the 35-year-old, from Wick, Caithness, was found inside.

Officers are currently treating her death as unexplained.

Detectives searching for a missing person over eight miles away at Mugdock Country Park in Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire, say their presence is "linked" to the death of the mum-to-be.

Cops were seen swarming the woodland yesterday morning, with dog units and a helicopter in attendance. Images from the scene show a large section close to an entrance of the park taped off as the search operation continues for a second day.

Meanwhile, tributes have started pouring in on social media for Marelle, who was a singer and actor, as several of her close friends changed their Facebook profile pictures to include her. Writing on her profile, Christopher Beattie said: "Rest in peace, Marelle."

Detective Chief Inspector Cheryl Kelly said: “We were made aware of concern for a woman at a property on Jura Street in Glasgow shortly after 8.40am on Tuesday, April 25. Officers attended and the body of a 35-year-old woman was found within.

“This is being treated as linked to the death at Jura Street and enquiries remain ongoing. Our thoughts are very much with everyone affected by this tragic incident.

“There is not believed to be any risk to the wider public but anyone with information or concerns can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0904 of April 25. A police presence will remain at both locations as enquiries continue and anyone with information is also urged to speak to any of our officers.”
