A pregnant mum-of-one was forced to climb out of her one-bedroom flat when a fire broke out in the hallway of her block.
Becca Owen, living at a block of six flats on Hargate Walk in Kirkby, was woken up at around 4am when her neighbours banged on her bedroom window telling her and her daughter to escape. The 23-year-old climbed out the window of her ground-floor flat with her daughter Skyler to escape the possibility of the flames breaking through into their home.
Becca told the ECHO: "It was terrifying. It's been a big shock and it's not really sunk in properly. My daughter has a really bad chest.

"She has a hole in her heart and she has inhalers. If we went back in we would end up in hospital. I'm 24 weeks pregnant and my daughter can't stay in those conditions. We're fearing for our lives."
The hallway on the ground floor has now been left charred by the blaze, with the single mum and the other five flats left to live there. Becca continued: "The hallway is black from the fire. It's just by the front door which has had to be bolted back on."
A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service told the ECHO: "Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service was called to a fire in a block of flats on Hargate Walk, Northwood, Kirkby, in the early hours of Saturday, February 4. Crews were alerted at 4.35am and on scene at 4.40am. Three fire engines attended.
"On arrival crews found a fire in a communal area on the ground floor of a two-storey block of flats. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a high-pressure hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. The fire had been extinguished by 4.52am.
"All persons were accounted for and there are no reports of any injuries. The incident was handed over to Merseyside Police, with fire crews leaving the scene at 5.50am."
