Pregnant Delhi Police SWAT Commando Dies After Brutal Assault at Home; Husband Arrested

According to news agency PTI, the incident occurred on January 22. Kajal was posted with the Special Cell of the Delhi Police. Her husband, Ankur, a clerk with the Ministry of Defence posted at Delhi Cantonment, was arrested within hours of the alleged assault.

A Chilling Call Before the Attack

Kajal’s brother, Nikhil, a constable posted at Parliament Street Police Station, recounted the horrifying sequence of events that unfolded over a phone call. He said Ankur first called him and said, “Apni behen ko samjha le” (Make your sister understand).

“I immediately called my sister. She usually wouldn’t share much, but that day she was telling me about her ordeal. While we were talking, Ankur got angry that she was speaking to me and snatched her phone,” Nikhil told PTI.

Moments later, Ankur allegedly instructed Nikhil to keep the call on recording, claiming it would serve as police evidence. “He said, ‘Main maar raha hoon teri behen ko. Police mera kuch nahi kar payegi’ (I am killing your sister. The police won’t be able to do anything). Then I heard my sister screaming before the call abruptly disconnected,” Nikhil said.

Barely five minutes later, Ankur allegedly called again and said, “Ye mar gayi hai. Hospital aajao” (She is dead. Come to the hospital).

Severe Injuries and Hospital Struggle

The family rushed to the hospital along with police personnel. According to Nikhil, Kajal had suffered severe head injuries and multiple wounds across her body. The family alleged that several hospitals refused to admit her, stating that her chances of survival were minimal, before she was finally admitted to a hospital in Ghaziabad.

Despite medical efforts, Kajal died on January 27.

Allegations of Dowry Harassment and Abuse

Kajal’s family has accused Ankur and his relatives of prolonged physical abuse and dowry harassment, including during her pregnancy. The couple has a one-and-a-half-year-old son, who is currently in the care of his maternal grandparents.

Recalling a previous incident, Nikhil said Kajal had been slapped by her husband around five months ago. “I asked her to come back with me, but Ankur apologised and swore on his child that he would not repeat it. I told my sister she could return home anytime,” he said.

The family also alleged that Kajal was forced to do household chores despite being pregnant.

‘We Gave Them a Bullet Bike, Gold and Cash’

Kajal’s father, Rakesh, alleged persistent dowry demands. “We gave them a Bullet bike, gold jewellery and cash at the wedding. Still, they said their son would have got a car had he married someone else. Later, my daughter even arranged a car, but the harassment didn’t stop,” he said.

Her mother said the family spent around ₹20 lakh on the wedding and took loans. “He also took ₹5 lakh from her. She suffered a lot. I want justice. He is a monster,” she said.

Marriage and Ongoing Disputes

Kajal and Ankur had known each other since their college days in Panipat and got married on November 23, 2023. Due to frequent disputes at their native home in Ganaur, Haryana, they moved to a rented accommodation in Mohan Garden in December 2024, but tensions reportedly continued.

Police said financial stress and domestic disputes were among the factors behind the conflict. “The couple had taken loans and often argued over finances and household expenses,” a senior Delhi Police officer said.

According to police, on January 22, Ankur allegedly first banged Kajal’s head against a door frame and then attacked her with a dumbbell.

A case was registered at Mohan Garden police station based on Nikhil’s complaint. Ankur was initially booked for attempt to murder, and the charges have now been converted to murder following Kajal’s death
