D-Street poised for positive start as GIFT Nifty signals gains

Domestic markets witnessed profit booking after four consecutive sessions of gains, with the Nifty declining 0.6%. Indian equities are expected to witness a gradual upmove, aided by supportive global cues, healthy domestic macroeconomic indicators, and encouraging corporate earnings. Investors will closely track the US jobs data later today, followed by the RBI's monetary policy decision tomorrow, and the UK and US Composite and Services PMI.

STATE OF THE MARKETS

GIFT Nifty (Earlier SGX Nifty) signals a positive start

GIFT Nifty on the NSE IX traded higher by 128 points, or 0.52 per cent, at 24,707, signaling that Dalal Street was headed for a positive start on Wednesday.

Tech View: The short-term trend is likely to remain sideways to positive as long as the index holds above 24,400. A decisive break below this level could trigger a deeper correction. On the downside, support is placed at 24,400 and 24,200, while on the upside, immediate resistance continues to remain at 24,800.

India VIX: India VIX, which is a measure of the fear in the markets, rose 2% to settle at 12.19 levels.

US stocks end higher

The S&P 500 and the Dow closed at record highs on Tuesday, powered by the latest batch of earnings from AI-related companies such as Caterpillar and Palantir that assuaged demand concerns, while crude prices and Treasury yields dropped on hopes for a deal in the Iran war.

Asian shares gain

Asian stocks tracked Wall Street higher after optimism over a possible interim deal between Washington and Tehran eased concerns about energy supplies. Oil extended its losses.

  • Hang Seng futures rose 0.3%
  • Japan’s Topix rose 1.5%
  • Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.2%
  • Euro Stoxx 50 futures rose 0.4%

Oil steadies

Oil steadied on Wednesday after steep falls in the previous two trading sessions, as investors waited to see if efforts to end the U.S.-Iran war and restore traffic through the blockaded Strait of Hormuz were making progress.

Gold rises

Gold inched up on Wednesday, aided by a softer dollar, while market participants strapped in for upcoming key U.S. jobs data for cues on the U.S. Federal Reserve's next monetary policy move.

Stocks in F&O ban today

LIC

Securities in the ban period under the F&O segment include companies in which the security has crossed 95% of the market-wide position limit.

FII/DII action

Foreign portfolio investors net bought shares worth Rs 2,446 crore on Tuesday. DIIs, meanwhile, were net sellers at Rs 936 crore.

Rupee

The rupee appreciated 9 paise to close at 95.28 against the US dollar on Tuesday as foreign capital inflows amid signs of easing geopolitical tensions in West Asia boosted investor sentiment.
