Prateek Yadav, the younger son of Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and step brother of Akhilesh Yadav died on Wednesday.
What happened to Prateek Yadav
Prateek Yadav, 38, had suddenly fallen ill and was rushed to the civil hospital in the early hours of the day but declared dead at the hospital, the sources said.
Yadav, a fitness enthusiast, had stayed away from active politics.
However, his wife Aparna Bisht Yadav has joined the BJP and is currently the vice chairman of the State Women Commission.
In a post on X, the Samajwadi Party said, "The passing of Prateek Yadav is deeply saddening. May God grant peace to the departed soul."
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over the death of Prateek, calling it “extremely heartbreaking” and extending condolences to the family.
In a post on X, he wrote, “The sudden demise of Prateek Yadav, son of former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mulayam Singh Yadav, and husband of Aparna Yadav, Vice-Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Women's Commission, is extremely heartbreaking. My condolences are with the bereaved family.”
Prateek Yadav studied at the prestigious University of Leeds before venturing into business and fitness in Lucknow. He owned “The Fitness Planet”, a popular gym in the city, and was widely known for his passion for health and fitness.
His wife, Aparna Bisht Yadav, has remained active in politics over the years. She contested the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections from Lucknow Cantt on a Samajwadi Party ticket but lost to Rita Bahuguna Joshi. She later joined the BJP in 2022 and was appointed vice-chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission in 2024.
Prateek and Aparna got married in 2011 in a high-profile ceremony held in the Yadav family’s ancestral village, Saifai, in Etawah district.
Earlier this year, Prateek Yadav had publicly spoken about marital discord with Aparna Yadav. In a post shared on his verified Instagram account, he alleged that she had strained his relationship with family members and said he intended to seek a divorce. He also claimed that she was focused on fame and influence, and said he was undergoing severe mental stress.
