A North Ayrshire school has been praised for supporting its children to achieve the best possible outcomes in their learning.
Education Scotland visited Ardeer Primary School and Nursery Class where they have talked to parents, carers and children and worked closely with the headteacher and staff.
The report was published this week which highlights schools strengths including the effective teamwork to support the strategies used to raise attainment in literacy and numeracy.
Education Scotland representatives stated in the report: “Staff provide calm, well organised and purposeful learning environments. They make effective use of every area of the school building to support learning and deliver targeted interventions, including nurture.
“Children benefit from a newly refurbished library where reading for pleasure is encouraged.
“Across the school, children also use a range of digital devices to support and record their learning. "
Areas for improvement were also identified and discussed with the headteacher and a representative from North Ayrshire Council.
Suggestions included continued support for children across the school to become more independent in their learning by providing more experiences that promote curiosity, independence, and confidence.
Ardeer Primary School is also encouraged to review the process used to plan learning across the school to enable staff to develop further creative teaching approaches.
The report stated: "Senior leaders provide clear, structured guidance that ensures a consistent approach to learning and teaching. Building on this positive start, children should now be encouraged to become more independent in their learning.
"The provision of more open-ended experiences would provide greater depth and challenge and provide increased opportunities for children to be creative."
Education Scotland representative commented: “We are confident that the school has the capacity to continue to improve and so we will make no more visits in connection with this inspection.
"North Ayrshire Council will inform parents and carers about the school’s progress as part of its arrangements for reporting on the quality of its schools.”
Head teacher Anne Surgenor said: “School inspections provide an insight into how well you are doing and what areas you can improve on. We are delighted with this inspection as it validates the hard work of our entire staff team to provide the best possible environment for our young people.
“We are very proud of our school and early years class and it is great that the work we are doing is being recognised by Education Scotland. A huge well done to all staff, pupils and, of course, our parents and carers who are a great source of support.”
