María Elena Salinas, one of the most iconic figures in Spanish-language journalism, announced her departure from ABC News after nearly three years. Surprisingly, her announcement came just hours before Jorge Ramos, her longtime co-anchor on 'Noticiero Univisión,' bid farewell to the network after decades working there.
In an emotional message shared on her social media, Salinas reflected on her time at the network, highlighting the stories she was able to tell and the impact she had on the Latino community. "Today is my last day at ABC News. It has been a journey," she wrote on Instagram.
She also expressed gratitude to her colleagues and teams, especially those involved in meaningful projects.

Salinas joined ABC News in March 2022 after a stellar career of more than 30 years at Univision, where she co-anchored 'Noticiero Univisión.'
Her work not only made her a household name among Spanish-speaking audiences but also allowed her to address critical issues affecting the Latino community in the U.S. "When I left Univisión, I said I wanted to keep telling our stories to different audiences on different platforms," Salinas remarked, reaffirming her dedication to journalism.

Jorge Ramos, a central figure in Latin American journalism, also announced his exit from Univision after more than three decades.
His final broadcast aired on December 13. Known for his fearless approach to confronting political leaders and tackling controversial issues, Ramos has left an indelible mark on Spanish-language journalism.
In an emotional message, Ramos thanked Univision for four decades of opportunities and assured his audience that his departure does not mark the end of his career.
Salinas and Ramos share a long history, having worked together to cover historic events and navigate challenges. In a recent tribute, Salinas recalled their shared experiences: "We traveled the world, covered wars, covered elections... saw our children grow and thrive." Their departures mark a significant shift in the landscape of Spanish-language news in the U.S.
Both Salinas and Ramos emphasized the importance of continuing to tell relevant stories for the Latino community. While stepping away from their traditional television roles, both remain committed to informing through new platforms and projects.
Salinas has already launched a new podcast titled 'Cinco Preguntas,' where she explores topics important to the Latino community.
