A fundraising campaign has been set up for a "inspirational" woman who always had "time for people".
Chrissie Byrne, the chair and organiser of the Friends of Walton Hall Park was well known around the city for her passionate defence of Liverpool's parks and green spaces. "Taken too soon" she died at the age of 51 last week and was described as "immensely committed and talented."
Chrissie was instrumental in the campaign to block plans by Everton and Liverpool Council to build a new stadium and houses on Walton Hall Park. The GoFundMe has been set up to celebrate her life and for the people of Walton to "pay their respects" to her legacy.

As well as her passion for Walton park, Chrissie also worked with the Fields in Trust group to legally protect all the city's green spaces. In the post attached to Chrissie's page, she has been described as a "true grass-roots activist" who "always" had a smile on her face.
The GoFundMe which was set up four days ago has raised £765 out of its £7,500 target and people have shared their memories of Chrissie. One person said: "Everything Chrisie did will be enjoyed for generations to come as well as securing their future use. The most important thing to happen to our parks since they were created."
Another person commented: "I’m so grateful for all Chrisie did both in Walton Park, and to secure our green spaces for the future. Unbelievable, inspirational, powerhouse, a fountain of knowledge of a woman. Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory."
The GoFundMe said: "She died too young on January 2nd, 2023 at the age of just 51. This fundraiser is to go towards celebrating her life in a way, which befits the scope of her legacy so that people from Walton and beyond can pay their respects. Any monies over will go to sustain the work of the Friends of Walton Hall Park CIC and her legacy."
