A leading councillor has said that dropping Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station from the shortlist of potential sites for the first commercial fusion energy plant in the world will "not have a negative impact" on the site.
Last week, it was announced that no further assessment of the Ratcliffe-on-Soar site would take place and instead its place on the shortlist would be taken by West Burton power station, near Retford - previously on the reserve list.
Councillors at Nottinghamshire County Council's economic development and asset management committee took the opportunity during a scheduled presentation on the STEP project as it is known (Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production) to ask what would happen to the Ratcliffe site as a result.
