Power cuts Northern Ireland: Thousands of homes hit with outages due to Storm Franklin

Thousands of homes are currently affected by power cuts across Northern Ireland.

Outages have been reported across the country, with a yellow weather warning for wind due to Storm Franklin currently in place until 1pm on Monday, February 21.

In one of the largest power cuts, 552 homes have no electricity in Ballygowan.

In an update for certain areas including Co Derry, Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) said: "We have logged a fault for this area and will be assigning a repair team as soon as possible.

"The fault is due to severe weather conditions causing damage to the network."

For other areas, including homes outside Comber, NIE said: "We’ve located the fault on the network and repairs will begin as soon as possible."

Repair teams are on their way to other areas including Holywood.

NIE have reported that repair teams are already at the scene in Carnlough, Co Antrim and Newtownbreda.

A previous amber weather warning in certain areas of NI is now over.

When issuing the weather warning, a Met Office spokesperson said: "Further periods of very strong winds on Sunday and Monday, with possible disruption."

  • Some roads and bridges may close
