Poundland warns shoppers 'do not use' Halloween items that could cause serious injury

High street giant Poundland has issued an urgent message to anyone who has bought Halloween decorations from its stores. The retailer has removed some of its decorations from shelves over fears they could pose a potentially life-threatening safety risk to children.

Poundland posted a warning notice on its website asking shoppers to return the affected products to store for a full refund. Poundland wrote: "Poundland are recalling the above products due to serious safety risk and potential injury due to the battery compartment of the product not being adequately secured which can expose the button cell batteries.

"The button batteries may be placed in the mouth and swallowed, presenting a choking hazard for young children and causing damage to the gastrointestinal tract. If you have bought the above products, do not use them. Instead return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund."

Poundland says it is asking any consumers who purchased the light up ghost or pumpkin to return the product in store for a full refund. No receipt is required.

The warning concludes: "We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused. However, the safety and confidence of our consumers and the quality of our products is at the heart of everything we do."
