Poundland shoppers are rushing to buy £1.50 item that banishes pesky flies

Temperatures are finally warming up, which means our gardens are once again being plagued by pesky flies. But this year, there could be a simple solution to our insect woes.

A Poundland shopper has shared a bargain product, which he claims rids outdoor spaces of the pests. Taking to Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, he shared a picture of Citronella incense sticks and wrote: "Sun's out windows are open.

"These are brilliant Incense sticks. Poundland 30 sticks for £1.50 not had any flies in this weekend."

Customers who had already bought the item were quick to praise its successful results. "We brought loads last year (the big ones and the smaller ones)," wrote one.

Another person wrote: "They are great! We haven't had one fly since using them," while a third commented: "I use these every year in garden and take to the islands when we go away with our boat keeps the midges away in Scotland haha."

The sticks are also selling on Amazon for a slightly higher price of £3.74.

For people also hoping to banish insects from inside their homes Mrs Hinch fans wrote on Facebook last year that half-filling a sandwich bag with water and dropping a few coins inside is enough to make a perfect fly deterrent, as when the bag is hung up near your open windows, flies will stay away.

She said: "A clear plastic bag half filled with water with a few coins in it. Hang on windows/doors and you won’t see a fly in your house. They think it’s a hive and won’t go near it."

The trick has so far proven to be a hit with other Facebook users too, as another woman also said the hack is "well worth a try" if you're struggling with flies in the house.
