Poundland’s £1 engagement rings are back and people are actually proposing with them

If you’re planning on popping the question to the one you love but can’t afford an expensive diamond, look no further than Poundland’s latest gesture.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the store has restocked its £1 engagement rings, which have sparked massive reaction among shoppers.

The bargain rings can be bought in silver or gold with different coloured gems, and even come in their own sweet heart-shaped boxes.

A silver ring with a red gem was posted to the Extreme Couponing & Bargains page on Facebook, and has divided fans.

Some think they’re “a joke” whilst one woman said her fiancé actually proposed with one.

Hannah Louise posted a picture of the ring to the group, saying: “Going to be some lucky ladies this year.”

Replying to the post, Paula said: “My fiancé proposed with one of these. Didn’t know what size I was and wanted to give me something. I didn’t care. Love the bones of him. Was replaced by a proper one which we chose together.”

Janet added: “It’s worth it for the box alone. I wouldn’t care if my partner proposed to me with a tap washer as long as he loved me and I loved him."

The £1 ‘bling rings’ even come in different sizes.

“Sooo me and the Mr got one of these just to see what size I was. He later bought a proper ring and put it in that box when he proposed…today we bought our wedding rings. Might sound silly but happy thoughts for me xx,” Paula commented.

While others aren’t so sure.

Chin said: “A lot of men spend more on a can of beer in the pub so no way should anyone accept a £1 ring as a serious gesture. Stop lying that it’s ok ladies it’s NOT.”

While Kay joked that she would “rather have a Haribo ring".
