Poundland is opening a new store this weekend as part of huge expansion plans.
The discount chain will welcome customers to a new branch in Widnes Shopping Park on Saturday, April 15.
It comes as part of wider plans for the budget retailer to open or relocate 50 new shops by the end of September this year.
The move will see up to 800 new jobs created.
Poundland opened three new stores on April 8, located in Castle Bromwich, Burton and Weston-super-Mare.
There are also plans to open shops in Belfast Castlecourt, Biggleswade, Stafford and Ipswich, although no set date has been announced.
Barry Williams, Poundland's managing director, previously said: "We know how customers appreciate the effort we’ve made in the last few years to transform our offer, offering them more of what they want to buy, week-in, week-out.
"That transformation means we have to step up our search for the best locations to bring the best of Poundland to customers across the UK and that’s precisely what we’ll do in 2023."
Poundland opened its first store in Burton-upon-Trent back in 1990 and now has 850 sites in the UK and the Republic of Ireland, employing around 18,000 workers.
The retailer offers Pep clothing in around 400 of its larger stores, plus chilled and frozen food in over 350 stores.
Seven new Poundland stores have opened over the last few weeks. Here is the full list:
- Crown Street Retail Park, Glasgow
- Dumbarton Road, Partick, Glasgow
- High Walk, Wellington Centre, Aldershot, Hants
- Lordship Lane, East Dulwich, London
- Parkgate, Rotherham
- The Spires Shopping Centre, Barnet, London
- Timberley Lane, Castle Bromwich, Birmingham
In other retail news, Greggs has announced plans to open 150 new shops this year.
It comes after a record expansion in 2022, over which 186 new stores were opened across the UK.
Along with the new openings, Greggs said it plans to relocate 40 shops to new, larger sites, as well as trial a 24-hour drive thru service.
Another eight to 10 drive-thru locations will open this year, adding to the 17 drive-thrus currently spotted across the UK.
