Poundland could fall into administration ‘within days’ putting thousands of jobs at risk

The retailer said a further 14 stores would be closed by early February (Mike Egerton/PA) - (PA Wire)

Around 12,000 jobs at 600 Poundland stores are in jeopardy, a trade union has claimed, despite the ongoing sale process of the bargain shop chain.

Current owners Gordon Brothers recently put Poundland up for sale just over a year after buying it for £1. Talks are ongoing with prospective buyers, including the Martin Property Group, but the retail workers trade union Usdaw is concerned that Gordon Brothers may opt to put the company into administration.
