Poundland are selling £1 engagement rings ahead of Valentine's Day

Are you an old romantic at heart but less than enamoured with the idea of parting with your cash?

Then fear not because Poundland might have this Valentine's Day all sorted.

The high street store is restocking its shelves with its £1 engagement rings - ideal for those who, come February 14, fancy popping the question but not their budget.

The bargain rings can be bought in silver or gold with different coloured gem inserts, and they even come in their own heart-shaped boxes.

And they've already sparked a huge reaction online, reports BristolLive.

On the Extreme Couponing & Bargains page on Facebook, one woman branded them "a joke", while savvy shopper Hannah Louise posted a picture of one of the rings on offer, saying: "Going to be some lucky ladies this year."

A third woman argued that she'd "rather have a Haribo ring".

However, one site member called Paula revealed her fiancé actually proposed to her with one, before going on to explain that she couldn't have been more pleased.

“My fiancé proposed with one of these," she said.

"He didn't know what size I was and wanted to give me something. I didn’t care though, I love the bones of him.

"It was replaced by a proper ring which we later chose together."

Janet was also a fan, posting: "It’s worth it for the box alone. I wouldn't care if my partner proposed to me with a tap washer as long as he loved me and I loved him."

Poundland first introduced the £1 rings back in 2020 which was a leap year, meaning it was women who could pop the question to their partners rather than the other way round.

The packaging stated: "Take the leap and do the asking... Because he might never get round to it."
