Mitch McConnell's return to the US Senate after a three-month absence has triggered renewed questions about his health, with psychologist Dr. John Garrison pointing to behaviour in publicly available footage that he says could be consistent with serious neurocognitive impairment, including conditions such as Parkinson's disease or Lewy body dementia.

However, Garrison has not examined McConnell and is not offering a medical diagnosis. His comments come after the 84-year-old Kentucky Republican appeared in a wheelchair and faced a confusing voting moment during a Senate Agriculture Committee proceeding.
