Portugal give update on injury for Liverpool star Diogo Jota

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has suffered a thigh issue while on international duty, the Portuguese Football Federation has confirmed.

The 25-year-old was a second half substitute for Portugal in their 1-0 defeat to Switzerland in their Nations League group stage fixture on Sunday.

Jota is said to have complained about muscle pain at the end of the match. Following medical diagnosis it was confirmed that he has picked up a thigh problem.

The Portuguese Football Federation has confirmed that Liverpool have been informed of the injury and the procedures that have been undertaken in the presence of the national team's doctor.

Jota had started Portugal's previous two Nations League matches, providing two assists in the first fixture, also against Switzerland.

He enjoyed a productive season for the Reds, scoring 21 goals in all competitions, with his last goal coming in a 2-2 draw against Manchester City on April 10 at the Etihad Stadium.

Portugal are currently second in Nations League Group A2 with seven points, just a point behind Spain and ahead of the Czech Republic and Switzerland.
