Portugal defender Pepe has announced his retirement from football at the age of 41. His final match was at Euro 2024, where Portugal was eliminated by France in the quarterfinals. Pepe made history by becoming the oldest player to participate in a European Championship finals tournament.

Throughout his career, Pepe represented Portugal in 141 matches, including their victorious Euro 2016 campaign. He also had a successful club career, spending 10 seasons at Real Madrid. During his time at the Spanish club, Pepe secured three LaLiga titles, three Champions League trophies, and two FIFA Club World Cups.

He is the oldest player to participate in a European Championship finals tournament.
