Port Adelaide's Wines refutes AFL trade talk yet again

Brownlow medallist Ollie Wines is again refuting speculation he's considering leaving Port Adelaide.

Wines, who will play his 250th AFL match against Fremantle in Perth on Sunday, says he's had numerous chances to depart South Australia during his career.

But the 29-year-old is adamant he'll finish his esteemed career at Port, despite North Melbourne coach Alastair Clarkson last week being the latest to mention Wines as a potential trade target.

"This is the time year where those (comments) will come out and there's probably coaches that will do that throughout the next month and through the trade period," Wines told reporters on Tuesday.

"But I'm fully entrenched here.

"I have signed on for another two years so I have been here for the long term.

"I'm generally a pretty loyal person so I love my teammates and my coaches and everything about this place.

"I've had many opportunities to perhaps go back to Victoria in the past but the pull of this place and our fans and supporters is too strong."

Wines spent little time pondering Clarkson's comments - the North coach said the Power on-baller was exactly the type of player the Kangaroos required.

"Obviously he's a tremendous coach and you see what he's done with North Melbourne but, look, I don't really look too much into the comments," the 2021 Brownlow medallist said.

Wines, born in Echuca, Victoria, was recruited by Port with pick seven at the 2012 national draft.

At the time, Wines had never been to South Australia and his move from Victoria reduced his mother to tears.

"It's a well known story that we were pretty surprised to be coming to Port Adelaide - my family and myself," he said.

"I had never been to Adelaide or South Australia and all of a sudden, at 18 years of age, I was moving interstate.

"So it was a big shock ... it was a lot for me to take in at the time.

"But I couldn't have been put in a better position to love what I do, to succeed, to run out with my best mates every week, so I'm so thankful for that day back in 2012."
