The Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo has made a fresh record for the fastest single journey in an EV from Thailand to Singapore.
Three journalists Pholpat Salayakanond from Thailand, Pan Eu-Jin from Malaysia and Desmond Chan from Singapore drove from Bang Yai on the outskirts of Bangkok to Gardens by the Bay in Singapore for about 1,845 km (1146 miles).
The drive was completed in 29 hours and 15 minutes, and has hit the record for the fastest single journey in an EV from Thailand to Singapore despite keeping within all national speed limits.
The Taycan stopped only for 25-minute charging intervals on the Shell High-Performance Charging (HPC) network implemented recently across the region by Shell PLC (NYSE;SHEL) in collaboration with Porsche.
“Now, we elevate the use-case for electric cars even further, by showing that long-distance, cross-border EV travel can be both fast and seamless with this first-ever Thailand-to-Singapore EV record,” said General Manager of Porsche Singapore Andre Brand.
Reporting on the Insideeves, fitted with the optional performance battery plus pack, the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo offers a range of up to 318 miles (512 kilometers) on the WLTP test cycle and an elevated ride height, which served it well on this long and challenging journey. To set a valid record, the car had to observe all national speed limits, which helped the EV maximize driving range.
The Taycan is Porsche AG’s (OTC: DRPRF) first fully electric vehicle launched in 2019.
“In the first quarter of 2023, it even appears that Taycan vehicles sold more than Tesla model S. While the Volkswagen AG-owned company delivered a total of 9,152 Taycan vehicles, Tesla cumulatively delivered 10,695 Model S and Model X units,” said Benzinga.
Last month, Autotrader, a Cox Automotive company, named the Taycan as one of the best electric vehicles of 2023 together with model year 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning, Lucid Air, and Rivian R1T.
