Popular sunflower field renamed in honour of boy who died aged three

A popular sunflower attraction has been renamed for this year as a tribute to a beloved three-year-old boy who tragically died of cancer. Rhossili Sunflowers has paid tribute to Morgan Ridler, who sadly died on Wednesday after capturing thousands of hearts, by naming the attraction Morgan’s Sunflower Field.

Morgan from Swansea was diagnosed with a rare and complex form of cancer in October 2021 at two years old. After a relapse his parents Natalie and Matthew were told his treatment was not working and the focus would move to palliative care. The youngster was the inspiration behind Morgan's Army Charitable Foundation which has the slogan: 'No-one fights alone.'

This year Rob Morgan, owner of Rhossili Sunflowers, has dedicated his sunflower field to the inspirational young boy. He made the announcement on social media and said in a Facebook video: “We’re raising money for Morgan’s Army – which is Morgan Ridler – which started because of him. The little boy was three, had cancer, and passed away... He inspired tens of thousands of people who followed him with his battle over the last few years.”

He continued: “For Morgan to have three years of his life cut short like that – it’s a tough one. But fair dos to Morgan – he brought together an army of people behind him from Gorseinon and Swansea, and everyone following his case, but it’s the stark reality of cancer in children. He was shining the light.

“All my love in the world to Morgan’s parents and Morgan's sister. They have a massive amount of love following [them] and friends around them,” Rob added. "He will be a shining light and has been a shining light. He'll inspire us all without a doubt. His mum said he never stopped smiling until the end."

The sunflower field will be dedicated to Morgan, which brings "lots of joy" to people who visit. Rhossili Sunflowers will also be raising money for Many Tears Animal Rescue this season. Rhossili Sunflowers fields will re-open for the season next week with more information on dates and times being announced on Saturday. Find out more here.
