Popular Shawlands café set to take over evenings at nearby dessert spot

A popular Shawlands café has announced they’ll be collaborating with a nearby dessert spot.

Freddy & Hicks, which sits on Nithsdale Road in Shawlands, will be merging with Langside Café on Langside Place. They’ll be bringing their delicious offerings to serve alongside the ice cream and desserts at Langside Café.

Freddy & Hicks, known for handmade burgers, loaded fries and other tasty treats, announced the collaboration on their Facebook page. They said: “From September 1, we’ll be taking over night at Langside Café.

“We’re thrilled about the collab with this Glasgow institution and we’ll even be serving their legendary ice cream and desserts. Wednesday - Sunday, 5-9pm, takeaway and delivery all the usual ways.”

Fans of the restaurant were quick to express excitement. One user commented: “We’ve always said we wished Langside Café was open late, and now it is - with you.”

Freddy & Hicks first opened in the area in 2020, after a stint in London and Swansea. They first began operating in 2015 as a vegetarian and vegan street food stall, in places such as Platform and The Big Feed.

The trendy spot has become popular with locals, as well as food lovers looking for a new eatery (It looks pretty good on Instagram too). Langside Café on the other hand, has been serving the people of Glasgow for over a hundred years.

First opening in 1920 the café has been maintained in the same decor since the ‘60s, with the owners even demanding ‘nothing changed’ when they sold it in 2017.

This latest collaboration between a Glasgow newcomer and local institution seems like a perfect match, and we’ll be first in line for evenings at Langside.
