Popular Scottish chippy in business for almost 60 years 'reluctantly' put up for sale

A POPULAR Scottish chippy which has traded for almost 60 years has “reluctantly” been put up for sale.

Shepherd Chartered Surveyors, which has conducted the sale, is inviting offers of around £550,000 for the Lochside Café in Dumfries.

Fraser Carson, an associate at Shepherd, noted that the business has “traded continuously for nearly 60 years”.

He said: “The current owner acquired the business in 2015 and is reluctantly seeking a sale due to an unforeseen change in personal circumstances.

“Income is generated from a loyal local customer base along with trade gathered from the high volume of passing traffic.

“The business presents a genuine opportunity to build upon a steadfast turnover through a return to full trading hours, further diversification of the menu and introduction of a home delivery service.

“All trade equipment is owned outright and is to be included as part of the proposed sale.”

The café is currently owned by Mr and Mrs Onesti with the property agent also pointing out that the business occupies a “visible trading position” on the northern side of Lochside Road, adjacent to the A76 and around 250 yards north of the A75.

“Surrounding commercial operators include McDonalds, Aldi, Tesco, Greggs and Costa,” the agent added.

“Dumfries town centre lies a mile to the south. The single-storey hot food takeaway unit with modern roadside sales frontage forms part of a purpose-built parade of similar-style units and has access to communal loading/parking.”

The accommodation also includes a large sales area, two preparation areas, a kitchen, office, stores and toilet.

It also includes a “large private patio” which could be used as an outdoor seating area.
