Popular sandwich shop in Dublin to close down due to 'tough' economic climate

Tír deli has made the heartbreaking announcement that its original sandwich shop on Baggot Street in Dublin city centre is set to close for good.

The popular spot on 9 Baggot Street Lower will remain open until Friday, December 2. Tír fans will still be able to visit their other location on Hatch Street if they want are looking for delicious sandwiches this winter.

Taking to Instagram on Friday, the owners of Tír deli wrote: "It breaks our hearts to announce that we will be closing our Baggot Street store on Friday, 2 December. it’s tough out there and we just couldn’t find a way to make it work. for that we are sorry.

"We want to thank all of our fabulous customers. the enthusiasm, feedback and chats have been one of the main reasons that we kept going till now. It’s been a joy to serve you.

"We believe we have some of the best suppliers in the country and are so grateful for the amazing produce that we’ve had the pleasure of working with. Thank you to all the journalists, bloggers and food fanatics for taking the time and for the beautiful, kind words (some of which may or may not be framed)."

They also thanked their past and present staff who they described as being a "joy to work with." They added: "The passion and skill you have brought to tír will stay with us as long as we’re here."

Ending the statement on a more hopeful note, the owners said that the team "will use this lesson to refine and improve what we do. we are devoted to delicious, sustainable, Irish food."

Social media users were sad to hear of the news, with many of them expressing sympathy that the Baggot Street shop is closing down. One person commented on Instagram: "So sorry to read this folks and sending you all our love."

A second wrote: "Absolutely devastated some of the best sambos I've had in Dublin lunch on my work break won't be the same." A third said: "Sorry to hear this and see you on Hatch Street soon."

The news follows as several eateries announce their departure from Dublin’s food scene. Store and Yard have recently announced that they are shutting their Wicklow cafe as it is no longer “financially viable” in the current economic climate. However, they reminded customers that their Sandycove branch would remain open despite the sad news.
