Popular Leeds bar announces permanent closure leaving customers 'gutted'

Popular Roundhay bar and eatery Banyan has announced it is to permanently close, leaving customers gutted at its decision.

The bar and kitchen spot, in New Road Side, announced the news in a social media post on Tuesday morning (April 11). There are a number of Banyan bars across Leeds, from Leeds City Square to Roundhay and Ilkley, which are known for serving signature cocktails, party nights, bottomless brunches, and small bites.

Banyan Horsforth opened in 2016 when it took over former chic bar and eatery Kobe. Kobe closed on October 31, 2016, before the premises underwent a huge makeover and reopened as Banyan on November 18.

The stylish Horsforth venue was widely popular, and inundated with good reviews, but will sadly not reopen its doors again. Announcing the news of the closure, a spokesperson for Banyan Horsforth said: "Banyan Horsforth is now permanently closed.

"Thank you so much for your custom over the years, we've loved being part of this wonderful community and have made so many friends. Don't be a stranger, we'd love to continue to welcome you to our Banyan bars in Leeds City Centre, Roundhay, Ilkley and Harrogate. Team Banyan."

Customers rushed to share their sadness at the news. John Pilkington said: "That’s really sad. It’s a pity you couldn’t make it work. Loved the outdoor seating area, especially during the lockdown era when you could drink outside with mates."

Adam Findlay said: "Started my career here all those years ago, fondest of memories, how very sad." Louise Walsh said she is "gutted".

Angela Clarke said: "It was buzzing on Good Friday night. No sign of anything like this." Debbie Kendall added: "We loved having this on our doorstep, always great cocktails and food, shame you are going. Best of luck to the staff."
