Popular Glasgow chippy Blue Lagoon is planning to extend its takeaway near Central Station.
Bosses are planning to take over the neighbouring 24-hour convenience store, Newsbox, and have applied to Glasgow City Council for permission to change the use.

The new layout would include a sit-in restaurant at the B-listed Gordon Street venue as well as the current takeaway.
Plans submitted on behalf of Blue Lagoon stated: “The owners and occupiers of Newsbox are to cease trading and will be selling the unit, which has provided opportunity for the expansion of the existing Blue Lagoon takeaway to create a restaurant seating area.
“The proposed development would allow for the extension of the existing fish and chip shop premises, to create a single operation offering a sit-in restaurant whilst retaining the existing dedicated takeaway offering which currently operates out of 69 Gordon Street,”
The extension would operate between the same hours as the chippy, which are 9am to 5am seven days per week.
According to the application, a frameless glass frontage would be provided across both units.
It stated: “The proposed extended use would encourage visitors and residents to dwell longer, thus improving the viability and vitality of the area.”
Around 20 full and part-time jobs would be created by the extension, the plans added.
“The proposed alterations to the unit have been developed to protect and enhance the character and style of the listed building and to provide a unit which will meet the needs of the restaurant for the foreseeable future and furthermore, the proposal will facilitate the growth of a well-established business at this location.”
The application is currently under consideration by council planners.
