Popular family-run Edinburgh café up for sale casting doubts over its future

A popular Edinburgh family-run café has gone up for sale, sparking doubts over its long term future.

The Blue Bear Café, in the Canonmills area, has been listed as for sale on Rightbiz, with the cosy little breakfast and lunch diner, located near the Water of Leith, looking for a new owner.

Open six days a week, Blue Bear Café, on Brandon Terrace, attracts customers every day with their tasty menu and rather peculiar, yet fun addition of a table tennis table in the café.

The café was actually voted 'Best Café' by Ion Magazine (2014) and The Skinny (2015) by the readers, making it a hugely successful spot to visit in the capital.

However, the building has been listed for sale, with Rightbiz advertising it as a "rare opportunity to acquire an upmarket coffee shop with full Class three hot food consent in a prime location in the Canonmills area of Edinburgh.

"This spacious café extends over the ground and lower ground levels of this property with 28 covers inside on the ground floor, 6 seats outside and ample space downstairs for further seating if required.

"With full class three hot food consent and a large commercial kitchen this business would suit a wide range of hospitality and catering operations.

"The business has a loyal customer base and excellent passing trade. Sales are roughly 70% sit-in and 30% takeaway."

On the Blue Bear website, they say: "We pride ourselves on cooking up some mouth-watering breakfast and brunch dishes to make most palates tingle!

"We are a fully licensed family run café. We are open 5 days a week. In addition to our delicious brunch and breakfast food, we offer a lunch menu and have a wide range of home baked cakes and pastries. We also offer a selection of amazing weekend specials every weekend.

"Coffee is important to us, so we are proud to work with Machina Espresso and aim to serve a tasty and wide range of coffee options.

"We care about our customers and are conscious of their needs - we have a wide range of gluten free and vegan options on our menu. Our gluten free and vegan cakes are some of the best in town!"

The team are yet to post any updates regarding a potential sale on their site or socials, but a change could be coming soon.
