Popular Edinburgh wine and cheese bar opens new location in Portobello

Portobello is soon to welcome a new hotspot as the popular Edinburgh wine and cheese bar opens their second location.

Smith and Gertrude is a popular cheese and wine bar that has become something of a Stockbridge favourite with their tailored pairings of cheese and wines. As well as their Stockbridge location, they also run a popular Wine Club, where a monthly selection of handpicked wines and cheese pairings are sent out to you directly.

Now, they have officially opened their second Edinburgh location in Portobello. Pictures of the new space have emerged on social media showing off the stunning new premises.

Found on 254 Portobello High Street, Smith and Gertrude don’t just do wine and cheese. Their charcuterie boards include different cured meats, olives or sourdough bread.

They also serve larger meals, including a Ramsay’s homemade sausage roll or a grilled cheese. However, their entire selection seems to focus on pairing well with whatever wines you may want to try.

Posting the announcement on their Instagram, Smith and Gertrude got a warm welcome from Portobello locals who couldn’t wait to try the new business.

One person said: “So, so excited. There were only 3 things we missed moving from the West End Frontierswoman, Frontiersman and being within walking distance of your Stockbridge home.”

While another said: “Welcome to Porty! Can’t wait to have you on our doorstep!”

Designed by the award winning team at Splintr Designs, the new wine bar has a modern, clean look. With bright, wooden shelves to display the fantastic selection of wine, high tables to relax at and a bar with chalk board to display the day’s specials.

The new space even comes with a record player built into a cove in the wall. Splintr Designs are also known for their work on other Edinburgh businesses including The Portobello Bookshop, Green Meadows and The Fudge House
