Popular Edinburgh restaurant hits back on TripAdvisor after diner 'put off meal'

A popular Edinburgh restaurant has hit back at a diner who left a 'terrible' review on TripAdvisor after they witnessed a member of staff receive first aid.

The customer, dining at Miller & Carter on Frederick Street, said that the staff member ,who sliced their finger open, had to receive first aid next to them and consequently "put them off their meal."

Taking to TripAdvisor to notify the restaurant of their experience, the customer felt that it was inappropriate for the staff member to receive medical attention within their peripheral vision, also adding a photo of the incident, which was soon taken down by TripAdvisor.

The assistant manager was quick to respond to the complaint, noting that whilst they were glad the person enjoyed their drinks and service, taking a photo of the staff member receiving first aid and posting it on the review website was totally inappropriate.

The customer, who made their visit to the busy steak-house in Edinburgh's city centre just a few weeks ago, also said their experience was further disrupted by the noise of glasses smashing in the background.

They added: "Cocktails were amazing and food great. Wedges were not made clear as you get a bowl of lettuce not the standard potato wedges which we thought it would be. Lots of smashing glasses in the background so a little uncomfortable setting and a member of staff cut their finger which she was first aided in the restaurant itself in front of us, when should have been dealt with in a staff only area and was quite off putting of our meal seeing blood on a finger whilst eating."

"Will not be returning any time soon."

Miller & Carter responded to the complaint, saying that whilst they are glad to hear the drinks and service were amazing, there wasn't much they could have done to avoid giving their staff member first aid in full view as obviously, avoiding food preparation area for this is absolutely necessary.

They hit back with: "Great to hear that the food, service and drinks were amazing.

"We're sorry that our team member requiring medical attention put you off your meal. As with any medical emergency the one requiring first aid is our top priority and this was done in an area that no food or drink preparation was being done.

"I would like to add the accompanying picture of our team member receiving medical aid was completely uncalled for we are grateful for TripAdvisor for removing the picture."

Rubbing salt in the wounds, the customer also left the restaurant a one star rating due to their experience.
