Popular Edinburgh pizza restaurant could be crowned best in UK after live cook-off

A popular Edinburgh pizza restaurant could be crowned the best in the UK after being shortlisted for a prestigious industry award.

Civerinos, who have three Edinburgh locations at Hunter Square, Forrest Road and Portobello Promenade, have become the go-to establishment for authentic Italian pizzas, as well as offering mouth-watering New York-style sides and drinks.

Establishing themselves as a fan-favourite in Edinburgh and further afield, Civerinos have now been recognised on a much larger scale after being named among the finalists for the National Pizza Awards 2022.

Civerinos join 15 other competitors across the nation at the prestigious awards in London in November, where chefs from restaurants, pop-ups and street food stalls will all compete for the number one prize.

Civerinos join Glasgow-based Pizza Punks as the two Scottish representatives for the awards, with 2019 winners Pizzaface joining the likes of Zia Lucia, Zizzi and Giant Eataly.

The live final will take place on November 9 at Islington Metalworks in London. On top of the signature round, competitors will participate in a technical challenge, where they will use a specific selection of sponsor ingredients to make a dish with the potential to win them the National Pizza Chef of the Year title.

This year’s event also includes a meat-free round, sponsored by former champion Purezza. Winners will be decided by a carefully selected panel of expert industry judges.

“The calibre of entries for the National Pizza Awards 2022 was so high that it made our job of selecting finalists more than a little tricky,” says Genna Ash-Brown, editor of Dine Out magazine, which organises the annual event.

“But this year’s line-up genuinely is our best yet. The finalists are preparing for battle as we get ready to fire up the ovens and count down the days until we showcase the very best pizza creations the industry has to offer. This is an event you won’t want to miss!”

Civerinos have previously expressed plans to open a fourth chain in the Corstorphine area of Edinburgh, although it is unknown when the plans will become a reality for the dine-in and takeaway restaurant.
