From fish to pizzas, chips and even mars bars, one local eatery has taken it a step further by taking the average sandwich to the next level.

This week, popular cafe Argyle Place in Marchmont announced they would be adding a new special to their brunch menu, with mouths instantly watering across the city.

Launching their 'breaded and fried toastie'. the cafe explained the dish contains two thick slices of bread, filled with Cheddar and Gruyère cheese layered with sliced ham or caramelised onion.

After being both breaded and fried until it has a beautiful golden crisp, the sandwich is then served with a side of black garlic mayo for "decadent dipping."

Hoping to see some interest, Argyle Place shared a picture of the dish on social media, with the toastie served up as if it was a course on a fine dining menu.

Describing the special as “luxury and crunch”, the cafe received a wave of comments from locals desperate to try it.

One user said: “Please tell me you do delivery”.”

Another quickly replied: “This looks insane!”
