Popular Creetown couple celebrate diamond wedding anniversary

A popular Creetown couple have celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary at home with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Robert and Anne Ross were married at Whithorn Parish Church on March 1, 1963 by the Reverend Angus Morrison.

Six decades together is a long time in anybody’s book – but Anne reckons there’s no magic formula to living happily ever after.

“Well, right from the start we had to work at it,” she told the News.

“I have been there and back. I was his blind date and he must have liked what he saw!

“Not long after we married I was told not to have children but I went on to have four. Now we have 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.”

Asked for his tips on a successful union, Robert said: “Always agree to disagree and switch off your hearing aids.

“And every night tell her you love her.”

Anne replied: “I just say to him ‘oh dae ye’?”

Aileen Brewis, Lord Lieutenant of Wigtownshire, attended the happy occasion and offered her congratulations. Robert and Anne received a card through the post from King Charles and the Queen Consort, Camilla.

Anne joked: “They might at least hae sent a bunch o’ floo’ers.”
