Popular city centre pub to be renamed for International Women's Day

A popular city centre pub is set to be renamed for International Women's Day by online poll.

Mary's Bar & Hardware on Wicklow Street is to be handed over to the women of Dublin for a special renaming to mark International Women's Day on Tuesday, March 8 2022.

The name will be decided by popular vote with women being asked to vote for their chosen name in an online poll which is live now on marysbar.ie.

The winning name will then be proudly displayed on the door of the beloved venue and anyone who happens to have that name will be treated to free drinks for the day.

Plus, they'll have the opportunity to enjoy a meal from Wowburger on the house, and there will also be some complimentary screws thrown in for all your hardware needs and a takeaway gift personalised with the winning name.

The popular pub, which is part of the Press Up hospitality group, has created a live competition where you can vote for your name, which will be open until Friday, March 4.

At the end of next week, the female name with the most votes wins and Mary’s will be renamed for the day.

The exterior and interior of the pub will be rebranded with the name appearing above the door, on menus and on beer mats.

General Manager of Mary’s Bar & Hardware Kassie Conneely said of the competition: "We’re very excited to host this fun event for International Women’s Day at Mary’s Bar & Hardware and celebrate all Mná na hÉireann.

"We will be transforming Mary’s for the day, with the winning name taking pride of place over the door, on the menus and on the beer mats, and everyone with the winning name can enjoy some drinks and food on us. What better way to enjoy IWD!"

Votes can be cast here.

Mary's is one of the historical pubs to operate today. It is said that Michael Collins and members of the Irish Republican Brotherhood were regulars at the Wicklow Hotel where the pub stands now during the Irish War of Independence.
