Pope Benedict ‘lucid and stable’ but Vatican calls for prayers over his failing health

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI is lucid, conscious and stable but his condition remains serious, the Vatican has said, a day after it revealed that the 95-year-old’s health had deteriorated recently.

On Wednesday it was revealed that Benedict was “very ill” and was at his his home in the Vatican Gardens.
