Pop Idol is reportedly set to return to ITV to mark 20 years since the show ended.
The show ran from 2001 to 2003 and was the iconic programme that launched Will Young and Gareth Gates' careers.
It was said that it is 'unlikely' that the show will return for a full run.
An ITV insider told Metro.co.uk that 'absolutely nothing is confirmed at this point'. However, any talks are understood to be at 'an early stage'.
Mirror have contacted ITV for comment on the reported return.
The iconic series, which debuted twenty years ago in October 2001, set the blueprint for future TV hits including The X Factor, Britain's Got Talent and The Voice UK.
While it only aired for two seasons, Pop Idol became an international smash and imitations were spawned around the world from India to America.
After sitting alongside Pete Waterman, Neil Fox and Nicki Waterman on the judging panel, Simon Cowell dreamed up a rival to the show and in 2004 The X Factor was born.
However, talent show supremo Cowell owes a lot to the original series Pop Idol which made him a household name along with the amateur singers destined for stardom.
Singer Will Young was the first person to win the short-lived singing competition
He won the series at 22 years old and ended up with a fruitful music career, releasing hits such as Light My Fire and Leave Right Now.
He even had four number one albums in the UK and took home BRIT Awards in 2003 and 2005.

Meanwhile, Gareth narrowly missed out on winning when he was only 17.
Thankfully, he still had quite a successful career and released a cover of Unchained Melody after leaving the series.
He hasn't released a single since 2007 but continued his success in musical theatre.
Gareth has starred in several hit musicals including Les Miserables and Legally Blonde.
Other stars that emerged from the show include Darius Danesh, who came in third place in the competition. He went on to release five top ten singles, including Colourblind
Zoe Birkett, Hayley Evetts, Rik Waller, and Jessica Garlick also competed in Pop Idol in the noughties.
Many of them, after trying their hand at a music career, remained mostly out of the spotlight.
