VISAKHAPATNAM: The response for the precautionary/booster doses continues to be poor among the 18-59 age group in Andhra Pradesh.
Even 15 days after the rollout of the booster doses for this category, only 1,935 people have got their third shot as of April 23, Saturday.
On the other hand, more than 20 lakh people in the 60-plus group have been inoculated with the booster doses.
As the intended recipients in the 18-59 age group have to pay for the booster doses, many are not showing interest. The booster dose is available only at the private vaccine centres for this group. The limited number of private centres and the reducing numbers of daily Covid-19 cases are the other factors behind the slow uptake.
On the whole, the state has administered more than 9.3 crore vaccine doses. The state continues to occupy the top place in terms of second dose coverage in the 18-plus population. Against the projected 3.95 crore people, more than 4.32 have got both the doses.
