KOCHI: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his urgent intervention to stop the move on the part of BPCL Kochi Refinery authorities to scrap the polyol project proposed as part of the refinery's expansion plans. The chief minister asked the Prime Minister to give instructions to the BPCL Kochi Refinery authorities to give approval for the polyol project at the earliest.
There were reports that the BPCL Kochi Refinery authorities will abandon the polyol project. Scrapping the project will affect the petrochemical park project designed by the state government adversely, the chief minister states in his letter. "It was the prime minister who laid the foundation stone of the polyol project, a project designed under Make in India in Kochi scheme, on January 27, 2020. The state government has been taking various steps to set up a petrochemical park at Ambalamugal near BPCL Kochi Refinery. Petrochemical park is a project where an investment of Rs 9,500 crore is expected," the chief minister said.
