Unless you’ve been living under a rock, the Lamar Jackson saga has been one of the most talked-about topics in all of sports over the last few months, with fans of quarterback-needy teams like the Tennessee Titans debating on whether or not they should pursue the former MVP.
Truthfully, those conversations are only going to get louder the longer that this plays out.
As of right now, NFL teams other than the Ravens are technically allowed to contact and negotiate with the former unanimous MVP since he was given the non-exclusive franchise tag by Baltimore.
Simply meaning that if Jackson were to agree to a deal with another team, the Ravens would have the right to match that offer and keep him, or they can choose to accept two first-round picks (2023, 2024) in return as compensation for Jackson’s departure.
As you would expect, many fanbases are salivating at the mere thought of Jackson potentially bringing his electrifying talent to their team.
When it comes to the Titans, this was only amplified following a seismic shift in the recent betting odds for Jackson’s services that have seen Tennessee go from part of “the field” to favorites.
According to Bookies.com, the Titans have now leapfrogged every NFL team except for the Ravens when it comes to the current odds (+400) and are being given a 20-percent chance to acquire Jackson this offseason.
While that’s no doubt interesting, there hasn’t been anything linking the Titans to Jackson other than speculation.
This type of blockbuster has the potential to be a franchise-altering transaction one way or another.
Keep in mind that any new deal for Jackson would likely come with a low cap hit in Year 1 to give the team wiggle room, with larger cap hits to come in future years when the Titans are better equipped to handle them.
However, Jackson may command upwards of $200 million in guaranteed money, which is no doubt a risky investment, especially for a signal-caller who has dealt with knee issues the past few years.
