A recent Associated Press/NORC poll has revealed that a significant portion of Americans support former President Trump in his legal battles surrounding hush money payments and other allegations.
According to the poll, only 35% of Americans believe that Trump committed a crime by making hush money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to keep her from disclosing their alleged affair before the 2016 election. The majority of respondents, 31%, view Trump's actions as unethical but not necessarily illegal. Additionally, 14% of those surveyed believe that Trump did nothing wrong, while 19% admitted they lacked sufficient information to form a definitive opinion.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has brought forth 34 counts of falsifying business records against Trump in connection to the hush money payments. While a significant portion of Americans see Trump's actions as unethical, the poll indicates that there is less consensus on whether they constitute criminal behavior.
When it comes to other legal challenges facing Trump, the poll suggests that public opinion is more divided. Nearly half of respondents, 47%, believe that Trump may have committed a crime in relation to his alleged interference in the Georgia election. Similarly, 47% of Americans think that Trump's possession of classified documents in his Florida residence could be illegal. Additionally, 45% of those surveyed believe that Trump's efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election may have crossed legal boundaries.
The poll results highlight the complex and polarizing nature of the legal issues surrounding former President Trump, with varying perspectives among the American public on the legality and ethics of his actions.
