FIRST Minister Nicola Sturgeon and other top Scottish politicians have given their support to a campaign to get Scots reading for six minutes on May 11, to help boost their mental health and wellbeing.

Party leaders Nicola Sturgeon, Anas Sarwar, Patrick Harvie and Lorna Slater were joined by Stephen Kerr to give their backing to the Keep the Heid and Read! campaign, which has already had more than 173,000 minutes pledged to the national reading moment.

The Scotland-wide initiative aims to promote positive and easy-to-implement changes, with research showing that reading for six minutes a day can reduce stress by 68% in people across all ages.

With Mental Health Week starting this Monday, the Keep the Heid and Read! campaign is encouraging Scots take stock and establish a regular reading habit.
