The Polish prime minister, Donald Tusk, has comfortably won a vote of confidence in parliament that was called to shore up his fragile coalition government after a bruising setback in the presidential election earlier this month.
Tusk’s aim was to demonstrate that he has a stable majority in the parliament despite his candidate losing the presidential election – and he’s done just that. Read my snap analysis here (16:46).
Elsewhere, Austria came to a standstill on Wednesday as it paid tribute to the 10 victims of a school shooting at a school in Graz.

…and in an almost poetic juxtaposition, Poland’s president-elect Karol Nawrocki has just picked up a formal letter confirming the result of the 1 June presidential election, and naming him as the country’s next head of state.
He will formally take the post in August.
The personal rivalry between him and PM Tusk will shape the future of Polish politics.
